Our Podiatry Services
Comprehensive Podiatry Care
At Dunedin Podiatry, we offer a full range of podiatry services for adults, children, sportspeople, and those with additional conditions such as arthritis and diabetes from our clinic in Dunedin, NZ. Whether you’re dealing with persistent pain, recovering from an injury, or looking to prevent future problems, our experienced team provides diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care tailored to your needs. We also provide footwear advice and second opinions.
Foot Pain and Injury
Problems & Symptoms
We diagnose and treat a wide range of foot pain and injuries including arch pain, stress fractures, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, Haglund’s deformity, bursitis, metatarsal pain, shin splints, apophysitis in growing children, blisters, and ganglions. Sports injuries are common, and we can also advise on running shoes and training techniques to reduce the risk of recurrence.
Treatments Available
Our approach includes orthotics (custom or short-term in-shoe modifications), foot exercises, calf strain rehabilitation, strapping techniques, shockwave treatment, and manual therapy. We aim to address the root cause of pain while helping you return to activity safely.
Gait Analysis
Problems & Symptoms
Our sports podiatrist specialises in identifying movement issues, such as in-toeing, limb length discrepancies, limping, flat feet, high arches, and children’s foot problems. Gait irregularities can also cause knee pain, Morton’s neuroma, hip pain, lower back pain, and neuralgia.
Treatments Available
We perform comprehensive gait assessments and provide exercise prescriptions, strapping, shoe selection advice, and orthotic solutions to correct imbalances. Preventive care is a strong focus, with strengthening and stretching programmes to improve long-term mobility and reduce injury risk.
Heel Pain
Problems & Symptoms
Heel pain can make daily walking uncomfortable or even impossible. Common causes include bone spurs, plantar fasciitis, nerve entrapment, fat pad atrophy, plantar fibroma, bursitis, and bone stress reactions. Many patients report heel pain with walking or during sport.
Treatments Available
Depending on the diagnosis, we may recommend shockwave therapy, manual therapy, orthotics, stretching and strengthening programmes, and footwear adjustments to relieve pressure on the heel.
Nail and Skin Care
Problems & Symptoms
We manage common and complex nail and skin conditions, including corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, fungal nails, thickened nails, athlete’s foot infections, hammer toes, bunions, gout, dry skin, and cracked or split heels. We also provide comprehensive diabetic foot care to prevent complications.
Treatments Available
Our treatments include manual nail and skin care, toe spacers, orthotics, and personalised general footcare routines. For recurrent conditions, we focus on preventive care to stop the problem from coming back.
Preventive Care
We believe preventing problems is as important as treating them. Our preventive care programmes often include:
Foot mobilisation and manual therapy
Strengthening and stretching exercises
Footwear assessments and advice
Short-term in-shoe modifications
Custom orthoses where needed (made onsite or through CAD-CAM labs)
Our approach often avoids orthoses as a first-line treatment when possible, focusing instead on restoring natural foot function.
Foot Orthoses
We can create custom orthoses onsite for immediate use or have bespoke devices made by specialised CAD-CAM manufacturers. In many cases, short-term, simple in-shoe modifications are all that’s required, and these can be done during your appointment. Orthoses may be part of a longer-term care plan for structural or biomechanical issues.
